My situation: The house has a pitched, ribbed, metal roof. A brick chimney, which is framed all around with plywood siding, rises up through the rooftop. Rain water is leaking through the roof where the metal sheets abutt the wooden chimney box (water coming through between the metal and wooden box, where the metal meets the wood). The metal roof is pitched, but the framed wooden chimney box is vertical.
I plan to apply a sandwiched coating of Super Silicone Seal and fleece fabric along the metal-to-wood joint, around all 4 sides of the chimney box. My concerns:
1) will Super Silicone Seal adhere to the plywood siding of the chimney box?
2) will Super Silicone Seal stand up to hot summertime temps of ~ 125*F (4 months per year), and how many years can I reasonably expect the repair to last?
3) is this the correct way to go at this repair? I had originally planned to use Poly Turbo Seal; however, Henry's #884 silicone roof sealant has already been applied to the leaking joint and I understand Poly Turbo Seal will not adhere to silicone. So, I plan to apply Super Silicone Seal instead.
Please advise. I learned of Bergmann Industries while watching Roof Doctor's excellent YouTube videos. - Thanks
